Western USA National Parks Tour

This small group tour (maximum of 15 people) is ideal for people who enjoy walking, photography and exploring national parks. The itinerary has been carefully designed to include a variety of different parks and scenery. We have included multiple night stays to ensure there is time to experience each area of the areas in a relaxed manner.

Beginning in San Francisco, we travel by mini-coach up the Californian Coast and visit the world famous Redwoods National Park. From there we drive to the magnificent Crater Lake National Park. Continuing north we travel by rail to Portland before boarding Amtrak’s Empire Builder for an overnight trip to Glacier National Park. Driving south through the picturesque state of Montana, we reach the world famous Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. On to Salt Lake City we go, exploring the city’s rich and interesting history. Moab is our next stop, home to the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks with some of the most stunning rock landscapes on earth. On the way to Mesa Verde National Park, we witness Monument Valley’s iconic and jaw-dropping landscapes. We then travel south to one of the world’s great natural wonders: the Grand Canyon. The final leg of our tour includes Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Las Vegas.

Klamath Falls to Portland

In the morning we board the Amtrak Coast Starlight service. The scenery along the route is unsurpassed. The dramatic snow-covered peaks of the Cascade Range and Mount Shasta, lush forests, fertile valleys and long stretches of Pacific Ocean shoreline provide a stunning backdrop for our overnight journey. We have the day at leisure to explore the City of Roses. Portland was founded in 1843, on the west bank of the Willamette River. There are beautiful parks and gardens and well preserved historic landmarks.

Portland to Amtrak Empire Builder Train

We have the morning at leisure in Portland before transferring after lunch to the train station. We board Amtrak’s Empire Builder service for the overnight journey to Glacier National Park. Amtrak Empire Builder Train to Glacier National Park

In the morning we arrive at West Glacier Station where we are met and transferred to our hotel. Glacier National Park is famous for its pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains, and spectacular lakes. With over 700 miles of trails, the park is a hiker's paradise. We spend the day exploring the park including a drive on the amazing the Going-to-the-Sun Road. This engineering marvel spans 50 miles through the park's wild interior, winding around mountainsides and treating visitors to some of the best sights in northwest Montana.

Grand Teton National Park to Salt Lake City

We drive 450km to Salt Lake City the capital of Utah. The city is bordered by the buoyant waters of the Great Salt Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Wasatch Range. Downtown’s 10-acre Temple Square, headquarters of the Mormon Church, is home to the 19th-century Salt Lake Temple and the neo-Gothic Assembly Hall. The acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs in the square’s domed Tabernacle. Crystal Lake Inn (2 nights)

Canyonlands and Arches National Park

During our stay in Moab, we will take day tours to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. Millions of years ago, the Colorado and Green Rivers cut winding paths deep into rock, creating a series of rocky canyons that form the heart of this stunning wilderness, Canyonlands. We take a scenic drive through the park. Natural stone arches and amazing rock formations, which appear as though they have been shaped by an artist’s hand are the feature of the Arches National Park.

Cortez to Grand Canyon via Monument Valley

We drive 440km to the Grand Canyon. Along the way we view the famous buttes and mesas of Monument Valley. These ancient rocks have been the backdrop for numerous movies and TV shows. Red Feather Grand Canyon (2 nights)
