Borneo
Spectrum Holidays have been organising holidays to Northern Borneo and Malaysia for over fifteen years. We can design vacations and travel plans which include 'soft adventure' excursions and tours. These excursions enable people of all ages to experience the wonders of Borneo without the need to undertake the strenuous and sometimes difficult activities which other adventure tours often require.

Sarawak State
We recommend that you start your vacation in Kuching visiting the excellent Museum and Semonggok Orang Utan Sanctuary and taking the boat to Fort Margaretta. From Kuching there are a range of options for visiting the long houses. The recommended method is to take the daily minibus then boat to the Hilton Batang Ai Resort. There are excursions by boat to visit the authentic Belaiee Longhouse and guided treks by a field naturalist explaining the jungle fauna and flora.

Another fascinating excursion is to fly to Miri then into Mulu National Park, claimed to be the largest caves in South East Asia. Excursions to the caves are initially by boat then board walks to all but the Pinnacles. It is an easy 3 km walk to the main caves. An alternative is to visit the Niah Caves near Miri. Other recommended excursions are to Bako National Park, a delightful mixture of jungle and coastal flora with many species of animals and birds. There are well graded and marked walking paths of various durations.

Sabah State
A fascinating excursion is our Rural Sabah trip (Botanical Safari of 3 days/2 nights) which includes Kinabalu Park, the incredible tree top canopy walk at Poring, Tambunan Rafflesia Centre and the Living Plants Museum. There is also the challenging Mt. Kinabalu Summit climb; this is very popular as numbers are strictly limited. We recommend the 3 day trek rather than the 2 day as this avoids the need to climb in the heat of the day.

The highlight to any visit to Sabah is a multi day excursion to Sukau wildlife lodge and Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. In the morning you fly to Sandakan then by boat to Sukau Rain Forest Lodge. The Lodge has comfortable fan cooled rooms, private bathrooms with hot water and an open air restaurant/bar. Boat excursions seek out long nosed probocus monkeys, wild orang utans, gibbon and other animals and birds including species of hornbill. You may visit the Gomatok Caves and the famous Sepilock Orang Utan Sanctuary.

Brunei
The independent Sultanate of Brunei is an interesting visit for a few days with its contrasts, water Villages, natural jungle trails and its free 'Disney' styled theme park.

    West Malaysia
West Malaysia offers a huge selection of destinations and experiences that you may combine with beach stopovers and shopping. Here's a selection:

Taman Negara National Park
The World's oldest rainforest and home to many species of wildlife including elephant, buffalo, tapirs, mouse deer, tigers and a huge variety of birds. It is possible to spend a night in a tree hide (basic house) with the prospect of seeing nocturnal animals that come to the salt licks and water holes underneath. The Park Headquarters has a range of modern lodges and can suggest activities from trekking to fishing and caving.

Local Homestay
This is not a tour but an experience. You stay in a traditional Malay village and involve yourself with the daily activities of the village folk such as cooking, handicraft making, rubber tapping, fishing. One word of warning, accommodation is often basic without private facilities!

Self Drive
Malaysia has an excellent network of highways with driving on the left hand side of the road. There is the choice of a hotel pass or prebooked accommodation. Another alternative is to use an experienced chauffeur.

Rail Holidays
Malayasia is very rail orientated. There is the mainline heading south to Tampin (for Malacca) and Singapore. North to Tapah Road (For the Cameron Highlands), Ipoh, Taiping, Butterworth (for Penang) and north to Alor Sta. From Butterworth there are daily trains north to Hadyai in Thailand and Bangkok but separate tickets must be purchased. From Gemas a line runs through the centre to Wakaf Bahru(for Kota Bahru). First class day travel is very comfortable on the expresses with airline style business class seats. We can arrange accommodation and tours.
