Towering trees blanket the steep slopes of the rugged Coast Mountains.  Between these trees and mountains there are countless waterways.  Sheltered from the Pacific Ocean by hundreds of mountain islands, these waterways make for some of the best wilderness cruising in the world.  Using the ferryliners of the Alaska Marine Highway, we take you up and down the Inside Passage.  Stopping in some of the most scenic towns, we will leisurely explore this amazing wilderness.

Mon 28: San Francisco to Seattle - We arrive in San Francisco and board our Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle.

Tue 29: Seattle to Anchorage - Today we fly with Alaska Airlines to Anchorage. Afternoon at leisure

Wed 30: Anchorage to Valdez - We travel via the scenic Glenn and Richardson Highways to the picturesque town of Valdez

July 2010

Thu 01: Prince William Sound Excursion (B,L) - Today we join a relaxing cruise on famous Prince William Sound. This superb wilderness region features several small islands, rainforests and soaring mountains. Wildlife is often spotted during the tour.

Fri 02: Valdez to Fairbanks - Today we travel north to Fairbanks along the spectacular Richardson Highway. This road has been described as a scenic wonder. It cuts through the Chugach Mountains passing waterfalls, glaciers, rivers and sections of the Trans Alaska Pipeline

Sat 03: Fairbanks to Denali - This morning we board the Riverboat 'Discovery' for a tour down the Chena and Tanana rivers.  The tour provides an insight into rural life in Alaska including: dog sledding, reindeer herding and fishing. In the afternoon we drive to Denali National Park.

Sun 04: Denali (B,L) - Early this morning we join a tour into Denali National Park and Preserve. The tour provides us an opportunity to view the scenery which this wilderness region famous. The Park is home to bears, moose, wolves, caribou and Dall sheep.

Mon 05: Denali to Anchorage (B) - Our drive today takes us south down the Parks Highway to Anchorage the largest city in Alaska.

Tue 06: Anchorage to Haines (B) - In the morning we catch an Alaska Airlines flight to Juneau, then board a light plane for a spectacular flight over the Juneau Icefield to Haines.

Wed 07: White Pass & Yukon Railroad Excursion - This morning we transfer by water taxi to Skagway where we board the famous White Pass & Yukon Railway.  This is one of the most spectacular rail trips in the world.  We can view breathtaking mountain panoramas, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels and historic sites.  This afternoon we are  free to explore the frontier town of Skagway before we return to Haines this evening.

Thu 08: Haines to Inside Passage - This morning we board an Alaska Marine Highway ferry (AMHS) and sail down the Lynne Canal to Juneau.  Local residents use the AMHS ferries as the only means of transport between communities of the Inside Passage.  Each vessel has different facilities, but there is always a restaurant, and often Park Rangers will provide free lectures on local wildlife and cultures.

Fri 09: Inside Passage to Wrangell - Our scenic journey aboard the AMHS ferry takes us to several smaller communities, around some of the larger islands and through some of the most narrow passages along the Inside Passage before arriving into Wrangell

Sat 10: AnAn Bear Viewing Tour (B) - We travel to AnAn by jetboat. On arrival we take a short walk, accompanied by experienced guides, to viewing platforms where we will have the opportunity safely photograph black and brown bears in the wild

Sun 11: Stikine River Excursion (B) - Today we join a jetboat tour through the lower sections of Stikine River.  This pristine wilderness region features spectacular glaciers and is home to abundant wildlife.

Mon 12: Wrangell to Inside Passage - We have the day free to explore the town before boarding our AMHS ferry for the overnight trip to Prince Rupert.

Tue 13: Inside Passage to Prince Rupert - This morning we arrive into Prince Rupert. The day is at our leisure to explore this friendly port town.

Wed 14: Depart Prince Rupert (B) - Today we fly with Air Canada to Vancouver.  In the evening we can then catch our Air New Zealand flight back to Australia.
