“My memories of bears catching salmon in the rapids are wonderful. That day was definitely a standout. Wrangell was a real gem; from here we had easy access to AnAn bear Observatory. Another favourite memory was sailing through the spectacular icebergs by jet boat to Shakes glacier – awesome!”

Luc and Maria, Melbourne, Victoria (Alaska and Canada Summer Tour 2013)

“We loved everything about our trip. One of the many highlights of our trip was travelling on the Rocky Mountaineer. It was magic from the first greeting upon departing in Vancouver to our arrival at Banff, what a stunning journey snaking along the Fraser Canyon. Taking the tramway in Jasper for an alpine experience was breathtaking. Luc walked all the way to the top of Mt Whistler while I enjoyed all the beautiful alpine flowers. The views of Jasper from that high were stunning. The highlight of Jasper National Park was a cruise to Spirit Island on Lake Maligne, the largest glacially fed lake in the Canadian Rockies. The ferries of the Alaskan Marine Highway are a large part of the transportation system for communities along the Inside Passage. We really enjoyed travelling with the locals while admiring the pristine coastline and natural beauty. Our favourite places were Haines and especially Wrangell. Wrangell is nestled on the mouth of the mighty Stikine River, in the Tongass National Forest, Southeast Alaska. Wrangell was our base to explore the Stikine River, visiting the AnAn Bear and Wildlife Observatory and Shakes Glacier. The relaxed pace of life, surrounded by the pristine Stikine wilderness made us feel privileged to witness nature's beauty. Visiting AnAn was the highlight: the abundance of salmon attracted both black and grizzly bears as well as hundreds of bald eagles. It was an unforgettable experience. Dawson City, in the heart of the Yukon, is a fascinating place. The unspoilt natural environment has many facets; remnants of the Klondike gold rush, houses slanted on permafrost and an abundance of wildlife. It felt like the ultimate place to get away from it all. Evening light extending well beyond midnight gave us plenty of time to explore Denali National Park. Each memory brings a sense of wonder: the jagged mountains, dramatic tundra and the awesome vistas of the famous Alaskan Range. Seeing Mt Denali in the late afternoon light was just unforgettable. It was a truly memorable trip.”
