Great Bear Lodge is located 50 air miles from Port Hardy, British Columbia. The self-contained floating lodge is situated near the mouth of a major salmon river. It is a place of spectacular beauty where one can still find the silence and solitude of a long gone era. Each of the five bedrooms has a washroom. The lodge supports low impact eco tourism so it’s powered by wind and solar.
There are two bear viewing sessions per day. The location of each bear viewing session may change depending on the movements of the bears. For example, the bears may be heading for the salmon run or a berry feast. As the seasons change different food is available so the bears move around to get the best available food source. Each season brings a range of experiences. In late summer you may hear the wolves and in autumn you are more likely to see bear cubs. Using the lodge as your base you may also like to go kayaking or join an interpretative rainforest walk.
