Map & Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Anchorage - the largest city in Alaska, attractions include; Alaska Native Heritage Center and Ship Creek.

Day 2: Anchorage - Prince William Sound Excursion - board the Alaska Railroad's 'Glacier Discovery' for the scenic trip to Whittier.  Cruise Prince William Sound on the catamaran cruiser 'Klondike.'  The cruise includes spectacular viewing through areas such as College and Harriman Fjords and narrated presentation on the Sounds’ abundant marine life. There are numerous chances for photography.  Return to Anchorage this evening by rail.

Day 3: Anchorage to Denali - board the Alaska Railroad service to Denali National Park.  The carriages have large panorama windows and there is an upstairs glass dome for viewing. Reasonably priced meals are served in the dining car.  Highlights of the journey include views of Broad Pass and Hurricane Gulch.

Day 4: Denali Wilderness Excursion - join a morning tour into Denali National Park.  This tour provides an opportunity to view the scenery which makes this wilderness region so famous.  The Preserve is also home to bear, moose, wolves, caribou and Dall Sheep.

Day 5: Denali to Fairbanks - afternoon departure on Alaska Railroad to Fairbanks.

Day 6: Fairbanks - board the Sternwheeler 'Discovery' for a cruise where you will see various aspects of Alaskan rural life including; reindeer herding, dog sledding and fishing.  During the tour you visit an Athabascan Village.

Day 7: Fairbanks to Dawson Cityin the morning you will be collected from your hotel by the Alaska Shuttle service.  You will travel north up the beautiful Taylor and Top of the World Highway to Dawson City.  On the journey, there are scheduled rest stops at Delta Junction Visitor Center, Tok, Chicken and the Canadian Border.

Day 8: Dawson City – day at leisure to explore the town of Dawson City.  Made famous during the Klondike Gold Rush late last century, the town has been declared a national historic site.  There are many preserved properties such as the homes of Jack London, Robert Service and Pierre Berton.  Other attractions include Dredge #4 and Discovery Claim, home to the richest placer gold strike in history.

Day 9: Dawson City to Whitehorse – board the shuttle and travel south along the Klondike Highway through ranchlands, past beautiful lakes and the expanses of the Yukon River Valley.

Day 10: Depart Whitehorse - there are several flights connecting Whitehorse to the rest of Canada.

  • This itinerary often has to be adjusted to fit in with the Alaska Shuttle schedules.
  • Extending this itinerary you can incorperate places like; Seward, Kenai Fjords, and Talkeetna.
