
Depart on LeConte Glacier and Petersburg tour visiting the southernmost active glacier in the northern hemisphere. LeConte Glacier is towards the south end of the Stikine Icefield, which used to extend over a large portion of North America in the form of an enormous ice sheet.This glacier calves quite frequently and fills the bay with several miles of icebergs. LeConte Bay boasts a large population of harbor seals and their pups.
After leaving Le Conte Glacier we visit the community of Petersburg ‘Alaska’s Little Norway’. This quaint village with a proud Norwegian heritage is located on Mitkof Island. Summer in Petersburg sees many Humpback Whales as Frederick sound is a popular feeding ground for them. On return journey we travel down the beautiful Wrangell Narrows.
