Matanuska Glacier Ice Fall Trek

Have you seen blue ice before? The Ice Fall Trek is a popular summer hike, featuring close up views of crevasses, seracs, unique ice formations and hidden lakes as well as getting up to a high point on the glacier overlooking the ice fall. No experience is necessary to join this adventure. Equipment is provided so you get to suit up in mountaineering crampons, helmet and a trekking pole.

The Matanuska Glacier starts at the Chugach Mountains and extends through a valley 43km north near the Glenn Highway. At 6.4km wide many come to photograph the glacier as it is easily accessible by car. The glacier is responsible for feeding the Matanuska River.

It is not uncommon for participants to join this tour unsure of what to expect and at the end they feel invigorated for more. The guides are professional and enthusiastic about helping you do something a little different.
