USA
Rail
Amtrak is the perfect way to explore
America with comfortable trains covering virtually every
state. An added bonus is the ambiance of train travel
where you meet Americans or fellow visitors in the restaurant,
sightseeing or lounge cars. It is amazing how conversations
are struck up and the wonderful stories that get told.
You have the freedom to visit those places you have
heard about. Spectrum Holidays can plan and book your
holiday combining rail travel with conveniently located
hotels and sightseeing in many cities. We also have
access to special rail fan excursions by steam, vintage
diesels through spectacular scenery in USA, Canada and
Central/South America.
Amtrak
offers passes of different duration which allow you
to travel 'coach' (economy class) with lay back seats.
For long distance and overnight journeys we recommend
booking a sleeper as this entitles you to complimentary
meals. We are currently one of the few Australian tour
companies that can ticket Amtrak. Recommended rail journeys
within North America include Montana Daylight, Grand
Canyon Railway and various narrow gauge railways.
Canadian Rail
The Rocky Mountaineer runs through a land
of snowy peaks, glittering glacial lakes, roaring waterfalls
and towering trees. This road of steel which opened
up the Canadian West covers some of the most rugged
terrain in the world. Today, this historical route is
recognised as one of the world's classic journeys.
Via Rail the national rail network of Canada
includes some classic trains. The Skeena runs
between Jasper which lies in the heart of the superb
Rocky Mountains and Prince Rupert on the Pacific coast.
The Skeena is a wonderful way to discover the region's
scenery, native culture and other attractions. The
Canadian travels between Toronto and Vancouver,
crossing the picturesque lakelands of northern Ontario,
the western plains and splendid Rockies, finishing its
journey on the Pacific coast. Other stops include Sudbury
Junction, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper and
Kamloops. The Ocean operates six days a week
from Montreal where it travels through the rural communities
of Lower Lawrence and down the Matapedia Valley to Moncton.
From Moncton there are convenient bus connections to
Prince Edward Island and St. John (New Brunswick), and
onto Halifax, Nova Scotia.
