The ‘Riverboat Discovery’ tour includes a visit from a bush plane and you can hear the pilot talking to your captain. The boat paddles close to the river home of late Susan Butcher, four-time Iditarod winner, where you can view her dog kennels from the comfort of your cruise seat. The tour offers participants a delicious taste of real smoked salmon dip.
The tour also includes a visit to a Chena Indian Village where you will learn about Alaskan Native traditional ways of life. Your guide will introduce you to an Athabascan fish camp and an Athabascan Indian village. At the village you may choose to disembark the boat to follow your guide as they explain which fur pelts were used to keep people warm and walk you through a spruce bark hut. Be sure have your camera ready when one of the guides puts on an Athabascan Yukon-style women's winter parka, as it makes a spectacular photo especially with the sunshine ruff on the parka.
