Day 1:
Arrive St. John’s - pick-up your hire car, then drive into the oldest European settlement in North America.

Day 2:
St. John’s - Start your exploration of this magical Island on the water. Join a whale watching tour (included), and experience the ocean lifestyle that defines Newfoundland. On the road you can start exploring the small towns and historic sites that surround St. John’s. Later tonight, you might visit O’Reilly’s Newfoundland Pub for a “Screeching In” and kissing of the cod.

Day 3:
St. John’s - This far eastern edge of North America has many significant historic sites, today you can explore the important sites around St. John’s.

Day 4:
St. John’s to Clarenville - Today you start driving west, and leave the Avalon Peninsula to join the main island of Newfoundland. Clarenville started as a woodcutter’s camp, supplying lumber to the fishing villages on the barren shores. It is a good base for you to explore Bonavista and Trinity Bays.

Day 5:
Clarenville - Terra Nova National Park is your destination and activity for today. A protected area that preserves the fragile ecosystem that exists where the ocean meets the land. The highlight of the park is the Marine Interpretation and Visitor’s Centre.

Day 6:
Clarenville to Grand Falls - Continuing your drive across Newfoundland, your destination is the centre of the island.

Day 7:
Grand Falls to Corner Brook - Today you arrive on the western end of Newfoundland. Corner Brook is the hub of activity for western Newfoundland. Pulp & Paper, Gypsum and fish processing keep this community vibrant.

Day 8:
Corner Brook - Take the day to explore Corner Brook. You can walk the city’s many trails, browse some unique Newfoundland craft shops, or visit the museums & historic sites. The Bay of Islands is known for its’ beautiful sunset.

Day 9:
Corner Brook to Port-au-Choix - Start your drive up the Northern Peninsula. Remember to pick which sights to stop at while going north, and which sights to save for the way back.

Day 10:
Port-au-Choix to St. Anthony - Today you are travelling along the Viking Trail. Your hire car becomes your time machine as you pass important archeological sites.

Day 11:
St. Anthony - The highlight of the Viking Trail is L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site (admission included), where you will experience a 1000 year old Viking settlement. The recreated sod village tells the story of the Norse travelers who were the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 12:
St. Anthony to Rocky Harbour - Today you turn around and follow the Viking Trail south to Gros Morne National Park. Gros Morne encompasses some of the world’s most striking scenery. Towering headlands give way to deep fjords as the land meets the ocean.

Day 13:
Rocky Harbour - Stopping at the Gros Morne Visitor’s Centre you can plan your days adventure. The park has walking tracks that meet all visitor’s abilities, and reward you with spectacular views.

Day 14:
Rocky Harbour - It will take one more day to experience Gros Morne and the area around Rocky Harbour. You may want to consider one of the wildlife sightseeing cruises that are available from the harbour.

Day 15:
Deer Lake Departure - Drive the short distance from Rocky Harbour to Deer Lake airport and return your hire car (one way drop fee not included). Board your Air Canada connecting flight.
