Our tour commences with a ferry crossing from Helsinki to Tallinn. After clearing passport control, we commence the bus and walking tour. The first leg of this tour is by bus and takes us though the most interesting parts of the city, with stops at the baroque Kadriorg Park, Song Festival Grounds and the seaside district of Pirita. An experienced tour guide provides commentary about Estonian history and contemporary life. We then take a walking tour through the winding, cobble stoned streets of the Old Town. The tour includes Toompea Hill, the Palace of Toompea that today houses the Estonian Parliament ‘Riigikogu, a visit to Aleksander Nevskij Cathedral and the Dome Church.
On your way to the lower town, you’ll have a chance to enjoy the picturesque view over the medieval Old Town from a viewing platform before descending to the lower town. The tour also stops at the Town Hall. Although the Estonians are justly proud of the forward looking side of their capital, there can be no doubt that the Old Town is its ‘crown jewel’. It is the best preserved medieval town in northern Europe, being added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 1997. After the completion of the tour we travel by ferry back to Helsinki.
